Our History

The term "specific learning disabilities" defined in 1964

National association founded in 1964--known as Association for Children with Learning Disabilities (ACLD)

Iowa Association for Children with Learning Disabilities (IACLD) incorporated in 1968

IACLD held first statewide annual conference in 1970

IACLD officially became known as the Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa (LDA-I) in 1993

Iowa--the only state to have three individuals serve as presidents of the national organization

Selected members of LDA-I were prominent contributors to the federal law (94-142)

Selected members of the LDA-I board of directors published books and documents that have gained national recognition in the field of learning disabilities

Member of LDA-I board of directors has been a leader on a national committee of research for twenty years

Member of LDA-I is the editor of the national newsletter Newsbriefs
